{"id":206,"date":"2016-05-09T05:28:32","date_gmt":"2016-05-09T05:28:32","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.divehq.co.nz\/blog\/?p=206"},"modified":"2016-05-09T05:28:32","modified_gmt":"2016-05-09T05:28:32","slug":"poor-knights-april-2016","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/divehq.co.nz\/blog\/poor-knights-april-2016\/","title":{"rendered":"Poor Knights April 2016"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"color: #000000;font-family: Calibri\">Part of the joy of dive travel is meeting new marine life as you explore new dive sites.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;font-family: Calibri\">So armed with Marine ID books and cameras we were keen to get underwater and start exploring on our recent Poor Knights trip. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Calibri\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.divehq.co.nz\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/05\/Diver2.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignleft size-thumbnail wp-image-211\" src=\"http:\/\/www.divehq.co.nz\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/05\/Diver2-150x150.jpg\" alt=\"Diver2\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" \/><\/a> <a href=\"http:\/\/www.divehq.co.nz\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/05\/Diver.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\" size-thumbnail wp-image-210 aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/www.divehq.co.nz\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/05\/Diver-150x150.jpg\" alt=\"Diver\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" \/><\/a><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;font-family: Calibri\">We ticked off a number of new species on the very first dive including Sandager\u2019s Wrasse, snapper, trevally, blue maomao, black angelfish, 2 spot demoiselles, yellow &amp; grey morays, scorpionfish and more.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Calibri\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.divehq.co.nz\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/05\/Black-Angel.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignleft size-thumbnail wp-image-207\" src=\"http:\/\/www.divehq.co.nz\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/05\/Black-Angel-150x150.jpg\" alt=\"Black Angel\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" \/><\/a> <a href=\"http:\/\/www.divehq.co.nz\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/05\/Stingray.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\" size-thumbnail wp-image-214 aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/www.divehq.co.nz\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/05\/Stingray-150x150.jpg\" alt=\"Stingray\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" \/><\/a><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;font-family: Calibri\">We loved seeing the larger species, especially the Long &amp; Short Tailed Stingrays and the schools of Kingis however as we did more dives we started seeing more of the small stuff such as nudibranchs and blennies. The corals, sponges and bryozoans on the walls add colour and texture that just has to be seen to be believed.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\" size-thumbnail wp-image-208 alignright\" src=\"http:\/\/www.divehq.co.nz\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/05\/Clown-Nudibranch-150x150.jpg\" alt=\"Clown Nudibranch\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" \/><span style=\"font-family: Calibri\"> <a href=\"http:\/\/www.divehq.co.nz\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/05\/Crested-Blenny.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\" size-thumbnail wp-image-209 aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/www.divehq.co.nz\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/05\/Crested-Blenny-150x150.jpg\" alt=\"Crested Blenny\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" \/><\/a><\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;font-family: Calibri\">We did see some species that though common here in Wellington were much rarer up north including butterfish, banded &amp; scarlet wrasse. However no spotties or blue cod were noted.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;font-family: Calibri\">We were also lucky enough to encounter a large pod of dolphins chasing flying fish (and man those fish can fly \u2013 easily flying 50-60m to escape)<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Calibri\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.divehq.co.nz\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/05\/Dolphins.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignleft size-thumbnail wp-image-212\" src=\"http:\/\/www.divehq.co.nz\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/05\/Dolphins-150x150.jpg\" alt=\"Dolphins\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" \/><br \/>\n<\/a><\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;font-family: Calibri\">However the best sighting off the trip had to be the boy\u2019s experience at Matt\u2019s Crack where they encountered a Turtle! &amp; yes it\u2019s true \u2013 they have a photo to prove it!<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Calibri\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.divehq.co.nz\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/05\/turtle.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignleft size-thumbnail wp-image-215\" src=\"http:\/\/www.divehq.co.nz\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/05\/turtle-150x150.jpg\" alt=\"turtle\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" \/><br \/>\n<\/a><\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;font-family: Calibri\">Claire \u2013 Dive HQ Wellington<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Part of the joy of dive travel is meeting new marine life as you explore new dive sites.
