{"id":254,"date":"2016-12-02T03:56:50","date_gmt":"2016-12-02T03:56:50","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.divehq.co.nz\/blog\/?p=254"},"modified":"2016-12-02T03:56:50","modified_gmt":"2016-12-02T03:56:50","slug":"christmas-season-is-fast-approaching","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/divehq.co.nz\/blog\/christmas-season-is-fast-approaching\/","title":{"rendered":"Christmas season is fast approaching\u2026"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Dive season has well and truly started so ask yourself<\/p>\n<p><strong>&#8211; Are you ready?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>&#8211; More importantly is your gear ready?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Did you know most dive manufacturers recommend annual servicing of dive gear especially\u00a0regulators. \u00a0Even in this modern day and age of technology, regulators are still a purely mechanical\u00a0device and like all mechanical things they are prone to wear out (the down side of moving\u00a0parts).<\/p>\n<p>Although the metal components themselves rarely wear out the O-rings (nitrile or other\u00a0material) inside only have a relatively short life span. \u00a0The special grease used to lubricate the O-rings (and other parts) gets displaced and over\u00a0time can dry out. \u00a0The most common sign that regulators are in need of servicing is a\u00a0free flow or leak from the second stage either the primary or octi and can range from mild to\u00a0dive ending, as the internal parts of a first stage regulator wear out the regulated pressure\u00a0they supply will increase and this is the main cause of a free flowing regulator.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.divehq.co.nz\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/12\/old-service-kits-and-part.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-thumbnail wp-image-256\" src=\"http:\/\/www.divehq.co.nz\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/12\/old-service-kits-and-part-150x150.jpg\" alt=\"old-service-kits-and-part\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>What\u2019s the inside of your regulator look like?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">BCD\u2019s are even more prone to wear because of the ingress of sand and other fun stuff into the BCD (especially the inflator) b<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">ecause of our unique diving environment\/method our dive gear gets a lot more exposure to unwanted nasty\u2019s (such as sand).<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">There is a basic check we can do to give us an idea of the condition and performance of your regulators however this is not a complete test it will only give us a vague indication.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">To properly maintain the performance and longevity of your regulators and BCD they need to be checked and serviced regularly (preferably annually)<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>In simple terms servicing involves<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Complete Disassembly<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Cleaning and thorough inspection for excessive wear or damage<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">All O-rings (and any other parts required) are replaced<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Reassembled <\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Tuned and tested<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">All done according to manufacturer\u2019s specifications<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Our two Dive instructors are also certified service technicians and give customer gear the same exacting level of attention they do for the gear they use.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">So if any of this has got you thinking, wondering or questioning the condition of your gear PLEASE COME AND TALK WITH US, we are happy to help<\/span><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.divehq.co.nz\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/12\/service-kit.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignleft size-thumbnail wp-image-257\" src=\"http:\/\/www.divehq.co.nz\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/12\/service-kit-150x150.jpg\" alt=\"service-kit\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" srcset=\"https:\/\/divehq.co.nz\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/12\/service-kit-150x150.jpg 150w, https:\/\/divehq.co.nz\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/12\/service-kit.jpg 225w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 150px) 100vw, 150px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Some of the parts the go into a first stage regulator<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Written by Dive HQ Rotorua<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Dive season has well and truly started so ask yourself &#8211; Are you ready?
